The first babies born via IVF in Kenya have reached the tender age of 16
The two girls, both born in May 2006, were brought into the world with the help of leading gynecologist, Dr Joshua Noreh.
The girls were born in Nairobi 28 years after the world’s first IVF baby, Louise Brown, was born in the UK in 1978.
The girls were the first of nine children born via IVF in Kenya by Dr Noreh since 2006, with a further 2,000 babies born since that day.
At the time, it has been reported on the standard media website that Dr Noreh said: “We don’t focus on financial benefits but our success has been to fulfill the dreams of thousands of people to have a family and this is the biggest thing we have been proud of.”
There are now 11 fertility clinics in Kenya, all privately owned and managed, with the average cost of IVF ranging from Sh500,000 to Sh700,000. In British pounds that equates to about £3,325.
