US celebrity chef Donatella Arpaia announces pregnancy following IVF

After six rounds of IVF US celebrity chef Donatella Arpaia is pregnant with twins

The news was revealed during her cooking segment on the Today Programme and comes after years of trying for a second child and sibling for her six-year-old son, Alessandro.

Donatella, 46, had her son aged 40 with husband, cardiac surgeon, Allan Stewart and the couple had been through five rounds of IVF to conceive again – but without success.

It was during the break from treatment Donatella started to look into adoption and was interviewed by Today host, Hoda Kotb. Hoda had adopted her daughter, Haley and it really struck a nerve with Donatella.

The couple started looking into the adoption process but before this they tried one more round of IVF.

It was then that Alessandro told her about a dream he’d had where he had seen twins and they had been sent by God.

Donatella said she was stunned by this as she had not told him about them trying once more.

But two months later she found out she was pregnant with twins.

She said: “I still can’t believe it is possible.”

The American restaurateur opened her first restaurant in 1998 and went on to open several more to Michelin standard.

The twins are due in November and the couple are not sure of the gender as yet.
