Fancy getting fit in January. Do you want to increase your step count? Well, the Miscarriage Association(MA) is challenging you to complete 250,000, and here is how you can get involved…
The MA has chosen the 250,000 steps challenge as it is the number of pregnancies that are estimated to end in miscarriage in the UK each year.
The charity said miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy can be distressing at any time. But many have found the last year especially difficult, with limited access to some services and partners often being unable to attend for scans. Feelings of isolation and loneliness have understandably been magnified by not being able to see family and friends.
Demand has increased during the pandemic
The association said throughout 2020 it has supported thousands of people through its online and telephone support services, despite this its fundraising income has dropped over the past year, particularly due to the cancellation of major fundraising events.
To join the Step-Up team, all you need to do is simply pledge to complete 250,000 steps in January and ask your friends, family, or colleagues to sponsor your efforts.
People taking part can complete the step count as they please, either choosing to complete an equal number each day or tick off longer distances on the weekends.
Every step counts
Doing household jobs, going to the shops and walking the dog all add up and even if you join a little late – don’t worry – there’s plenty of time to catch up.
An MA spokeswoman said: “To take part, you will need to create your fundraising page here. Be sure to attach it to the overall Step Up the MA campaign so we can see how you are all doing. You can do this by scrolling to the bottom of the Virgin Money Giving campaign page and clicking the Start Fundraising button.”
