IVF Babble

Our decision to not go ahead with any more treatment, by Laura M

We started trying for a baby right after our wedding. After a year of no success, we decided to consult a doctor and were diagnosed with male infertility. Our case was simple on paper: we were 27, male infertility

We went straight to IMSI IVF.  (IMSI: Intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection) It took us 3 rounds of IVF and 8 embryos, but I am delighted to say that it worked, and we are parents to our wonderful son.

After our initial journey we decided we wanted to try for another baby. We tried and hoped for a miracle for 3 years, but with no luck, decided to go back to IVF. Thereupon followed 3 very tough years of fertility treatment which included:

We literally feel like we’ve done all we could. Sadly, we experienced lab mistakes, multiple miscarriages and 2 ectopic pregnancies that cost me both my tubes, and internal bleeding that saw me needing blood transfusion.

We’re now 2 days away from the results of our final try, and we have decided to stop there whatever the outcome is

Doctors are still puzzled as to why I was unable to have another child. The only option they offer is to keep trying or go the donor route.

After 12 embryo transfers and 5 failed pregnancies, we feel that my mental health, and health in general is too much at risk. We will focus on our only child that we are so lucky to have and will grow our family with a dog.

The pain is real, as I think of all the babies I lost

We wanted a big family, but infertility was a prime factor in the first 10 years of our marriage and we feel we need to turn a new leaf…
