Start your day this jubilee in a healthy way with this fertility-friendly Red, White and Blue ‘Nutritious and Berry Delicious’ Breakfast Trifle
This can be made as one large trifle or in individual pretty glasses. Simply place a layer of strawberries that have been washed, hulled and halved into the base of a big trifle dish or into a glass then add a layer of whipped natural live yoghurt (a great probiotic for the gut), followed by a layer of blueberries and then granola and repeat! The fruit can be pureed if you prefer. Top with more fruit and a few nuts and honey and enjoy!
The berries in this recipe are a fantastic source of antioxidants as well as folate and vitamin c to help ‘zap’ those free radicals that can lead to oxidative stress in cells and thus help prevent damage to the DNA, including egg and sperm cells. Berries are also a great source of fibre and contain resistant starch and inulin which are known to have a prebiotic effect.
Natural live yoghurt is great for the gut as it contains friendly probiotic bacteria (such as lactobacillus)- all health starts in the gut. It is also a good source of protein, calcium and provides selenium too.
Honey – possesses an array of plant chemicals that act as antioxidants. It also contains antibacterial and antifungal properties (in particular raw and manuka honey).
This healthy trifle can always be made in the evening and popped into the fridge overnight….nutritious and delicious.
