Learning a whole new language when TTC

When you have been TTC for a while, life can feel like you are living in a bubble. Achieving those two blue lines can become all consuming and you can find yourself immersed in Facebook groups and forums, comparing notes, and leaning on each other for invaluable support.

But, with such lengthy words in connection to artificial reproductive technology (ART) the need to abbreviate has become a necessity when deep in online chat. I mean, who has the time to write out in whole “Basal body temperature” when you can just say “BBT”?! And so, before you realise it, you are talking in acronyms, creating sentences that you never ever thought you would be creating, and using terms like “Baby Dance” (BD) which means having sex when you’re most fertile in hopes of conceiving!!

So, if you are new to this bubble, and have delved in to the support groups and just thought “what the…?!!!”, then let us help you. This is a list of the acronyms we know of..although we are sure there are hundreds more. However, it’s a good start.
