Former TOWIE star Mario Falcone discusses fertility woes

Former UK reality television star Mario Falcone has opened up about his and his wife Becky’s struggle to have a second child

Mario, who is the brother of children’s author and television presenter, Giovanna Fletcher, talked candidly about their experiences on her latest episode of the podcast, Happy Mum, Happy Baby, alongside their other sibling, Giorgina.

The 34-year-old already has a four-year-old son, Parker Jax with his wife, Becky.

The couple married in Sorrento in the summer of 2022 and had been trying for a sibling for Parker for a couple of years.

He said they felt a certain pressure to give him a baby brother or sister.

He told his sisters: “When we were trying for baby number two, with this added pressure we felt like we were letting Parker down, that he was so ready for a sibling when he’s around his cousins and then comes home and say, ‘why haven’t I got a brother of sister?’

“And that kills you; it literally kills you inside because you’re like ‘I can forgive you anything you want my son, but this is the one thing that I cannot give you.

“So we both felt really guilty as time was flying by, it was getting a lot worse, putting the pressure on our relationship and stuff as well.”

He discussed going though months of IVF treatment and finally becoming pregnant, but it wasn’t too be.

He said: “Becky finally fell pregnant with IVF, we had one thing happen when she started to bleed at seven weeks, but we had it checked and everything was fine.

“Then a week and a half later it happened again, and when we went back for the scan thinking it was all going to be fine, but it wasn’t, she had a miscarriage.”

He said the pain he felt was the hardest thing they’d had to deal with in their relationship.

“It’s the disappointment in ourselves, because we got really excited about telling our families at Christmas – we had these little cards made that unfortunately arrived that day.”

The couple decided to take time out to enjoy their wedding.

The excitement of trying for another baby was marred by their grief and the process became what he described as a ‘burden’.

The couple revealed in a sweet post on Instagram with Parker pointing to the top of the Christmas tree to reveal a scan of the baby.

Mario said the IVF process felt more relaxed this time, and third time lucky it worked.

He said: “It sort of felt like we got to recharge and re-prepare ourselves for it.

“Because everything felt so different this time we were a lot more confident taking Parker to the scans and when he heard the baby’s heartbeat he got excited and saw it on screen. It was one of those moments where it made everything that had happened in the last year and the joy and disappointment is really worth it.”
