Fertility and the holidays

There is no denying it, the holidays are a tough time when you are trying to conceive

It can trigger some serious emotions, anxiety, and even spark depression, so we wanted to give you some top tips to cope with the next few weeks.

Thanksgiving is the start of the festive season for millions of people. What do you have planned?

Many people struggling with infertility will look at this season with dread. We know you, we feel you, we’ve all been where you are now.

So, how can we make the best of what is one of the toughest times of the year?

Find time for yourself this December

When you’re in the midst of fertility treatment you can lose yourself and get lost in the cycle.

If you’ve just finished an unsuccessful cycle, you may be advised to take a break from treatment until the New Year.

Self-care is a word that is bandied around a lot in this day and age but stop for a second and think about it.

When did you last sit in a warm, soapy bath or read a book you’ve been meaning to for the past year?

When did you last book a spa day or have an hour of quiet time?

What about some time off work? When was the last time you took some leave?

Your homework is to book a few days leave, turn off your phone, book a massage and try to destress.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reconnect with your family and friends. It could be the last time you get the chance to have the freedom to do things with them before a little bundle of joy becomes your new normal.

So, take the time and spend some quality time with your parents or siblings, or make that trip to visit your grandparents.

Even though you will be feeling the strain of your situation – ever heightened by the festive period – use some of these ideas to distract you.
