Couple heartbroken after IVF funds stolen from home

A couple who work as healthcare workers in the NHS are gutted after savings for IVF have been stolen from their home

Jodie Toal and her partner Jamie returned home to find windows on their home smashed and the money gone, along with other expensive belongings.

The pair, who live in Blackpool, told LancashireLive news website: “We are heartbroken about it. We can barely sleep and are off work.

“We are keyworkers and have worked throughout the pandemic. We get tested every week for Covid and have never had a day off the whole time, and this has led us to be off work.

“Not only are we afraid to be in our own home, but we are also afraid to be out of the house. We don’t feel safe.”

The couple returned home from working and then spent time with family on Christmas Day to discover the window smashed and Jodie’s handbag strewn all over the living room floor.

Jodie raced upstairs to their safe to find it had been forced open and the ‘substantial amount of savings’ stolen.

She suffers from polycystic ovarian syndrome and has been saving for many years until the time is right to have children.

The care worker said: “Since 2016 I have been putting money away and obviously that money has been taken now. Not only has our present and our past been taken away from us. Our future could also now be at a detriment because we don’t know if we will be able to afford that. It’s very sad as we are good people.”

The couple has set up a GoFundMe page to try to recoup some of the funds stolen and has so far raised about £1,400 of their £7,500 goal.
