Channel 4 news anchor Jon Snow, 73 welcomes son via surrogate

Popular news anchor Jon Snow has welcomed a baby boy with his wife of 11 years, Precious Lunga

The television journalist announced the news on March 2 and revealed the couple had suffered ‘several medical setbacks and miscarriages’.

The baby was born via surrogate and in a statement, Jon said: “In our desire to seal our 11 years of marriage with a baby, my wife suffered numerous medical setbacks and miscarriages.

“Consequently, we will always be deeply grateful to our surrogate, who carried an embryo to full term.

“Amid these times we feel doubly blessed to be able to celebrate our good fortune.”

No other details have been released.

The 73-year-old married academic Precious in 2010 and has two daughters from a previous relationship.

But Jon is not the only septuagenarian to welcome children, Richard Gere was 70 when he had a second child with his wife, Alejandra, Mick Jagger had his son, Devereux at the age of 73 and Charlie Chaplin had his final child in his 70s.
