Struggling with the January low-mood blues? Why not make this nutritious and delicious juice to give yourself an energy boost- packed full of nourishing nutrients for mind and body.
Beetroot is a great source of nutrients such vitamin C, folate and iron and when it comes to helping lift a low mood, beetroot also packs a secret weapon – betaine! Betaine is a modified amino acid which, in addition to many other benefits, helps to increase our levels of a specific compound called s-adenosylmethionine (SAM). This then goes on to increase our levels of serotonin, plus it can also boost our production of dopamine too!
Berries such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants are important in maintaining a healthy brain and mind as they are packed full of antioxidants.
Ginger is great in shots as it provides a powerful kick. A great energy booster and mood enhancer, Ginger is also linked to helping alleviate gastrointestinal issues, plays a role in reducing inflammation in the body, supports the immune system and rejuvenates skin. It also contains anti- microbial properties. Ginger contains many important nutrients and vitamins including vitamin C, B5 and B6, along with a good amount of the mineral’s potassium, manganese, copper, and magnesium.
Apples (or fresh apple juice) help support the immune system too as they are also rich in vitamin c, antioxidants and contain many plant compounds including Quercetin (a great anti -inflammatory).
