Amy Schumer on her decision to have just one child

US comedian Any Schumer has revealed she felt ‘sad’ after IVF failed for her and her husband Chris Fischer

The 40-year-old appeared on the latest version of Chelsea Handler’s podcast Dear Chelsea, where she discussed her fertility journey.

She started off by telling Chelsea about the journey to have a sibling for her first son, Gene, who is now two-and-a-half.

She said: “I did IVF, we made embryos and I went through the IVF process, which is so hard. People do it so many times. I did it one time and I thought I was going to die. This is awful.

“I got like 31 eggs and thought I was Fertile Myrtle. I felt very hot. And then we got the drop-off after fertilisation. We got one normal embryo and we tried and it didn’t work. And now I don’t have a uterus.”

Amy admitted that after all the couple had been through, they would only be having one child.

She said: “So we’re going to have just one child and we’re enjoying our little family and I’m focusing on that.

“I’m excited about it, but I was sad. And it’s not really something you get sympathy for because it’s like, you already have one bitch, shut up. But you know, that’s the struggle people go through.”

Amy has been candid about her journey to parenthood from starting IVF in 2018 to having severe morning sickness and even being hospitalised in the first few months of pregnancy.

Amy concluded: “Yeah, we tried. But we’re only going to have the one adorable little angel.”

Did you decide against having any more children when IVF failed on the second try? Or did you keep going until you got a sibling for your first born? We’d love to hear your story, email mystory@ivfbabble.com.
