Penny Lancaster, best known as a Loose Women panellist and for her marriage to legendary rock icon Rod Stewart, recently opened up about her struggles to get pregnant back in 2007
Penny, now 49, and Sir Rod Stewart, now 75, got married back in 2007. Today, they are the proud parents of two sons, Alastair, 14, and Aiden, 9. Penny made a splash on Strictly Come Dancing more than a decade ago. She recently shared her feelings about her and hubby Rod’s struggle to conceive just after she was on the hit BBC show.
Earlier in July, Penny joined her former Strictly dance partner Ian Waite on his Instagram account for a live chat session. Ian hosts a Fitsteps show called Waites Wednesday, on which he guides his fans through vigorous work-outs. Penny still counts herself as a fan, and she revealed that he was a big reason why she was able to get ‘fit’ on Strictly.
On her recent appearance, Penny talked about undergoing three IVF attempts to have her son Aiden
She recalled, “I did get fit after having Alastair who was over one-years-old at the time [on Strictly]. I got my abs back. Then three IVFs later, I had Aiden, and I didn’t get my abs back after that!”
Penny and Rod have never been shy about talking about their struggle to have a second child together. They tried for two years to give Alastair a younger sibling. After their attempts to conceive naturally failed, they decided to seek medical help. Ultimately, their fertility journey was successful. She was thrilled to find out that she was pregnant with her son Aiden.
In an interview with HELLO! magazine at the time, she exclaimed, “I couldn’t believe it. I burst into tears. I called Rod when I was still sobbing. He said, ‘I’m in the middle of a restaurant in Russia, crying’. I kept pinching myself. Neither of us could believe it.”
Rod was always hopeful that they would make their dreams of a second child come true
He said, “IVF can be stressful, especially for the woman with all the hormone injections and procedures. I said to Penny, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll just keep trying’.”
The “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ heartthrob now has eight children from five different relationships. His brood includes daughter, Sarah, 56, (from a young relationship in his teens); Kimberly, 40, and Sean, 39, with ex-wife Alana Stewart; and Ruby, 32, with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg; and Renee, 27, and Liam, 25, from his second ex-wife Rachel Hunter. Rounding out his family are his boys with Penny, Alistair, 14, and Aiden, 9. That’s quite an age range!
Penny has been keeping busy during the Covid-19 pandemic with a new role as a police volunteer. She recently posted an Instagram selfie dressed in a police uniform, explaining, “nothing has been more rewarding as when I got the opportunity to step into the boots of a police volunteer.”
