Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia has announced she is expecting her first child at the age of 44
The Torn singer, who is thought to be single, has revealed she used a sperm donor to fulfil a dream of becoming a mother on her social media pages.
She posted an image of herself cradling her growing baby bump and said she felt ‘blessed’.
She explained her desire to be a mother had always been strong and that she had been helped to realise that dream with IVF.
She also revealed she had signed a new record deal with BMG after spending the past 18 months writing new songs.
She said on her Instagram page: “For those of you that know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I’m blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor – I won’t be saying anything more on that publicly. I’m so excited about this next adventure… a new album and I’m going to be a mum.”
Her fans quickly responded sending her many well wishes and the post garnered 42,000 likes, with a few celebrity friends also congratulating her on the wonderful news.
Holly Branson, who went through her own fertility struggle, said: “Yippee yippee yay yay. Best post ever! So excited for you.”
Fellow Australian singer Dannii Minogue also sent well wishes, she said: “Congratulations on both your news. What a wonderful blossoming time. PS I love baby cuddles so I am free for babysitting any time.”
Other celebrities who congratulated her included fellow singer, Sophie Ellis Bexter, Spice Girl Mel C and presenter, Keith Lemon.
Natalie was previously married to musician Daniel Johns but they divorced in 2008. In recent years she has said there was ‘any men around and that needs to be sorted first’.
