UK actress Lisa Faulkner has revealed she felt like ‘a failure’ after failing to conceive through fertility treatment
The 47 -year-old told the latest issue of Hello! magazine she ‘lost sight of everything’ when she was on her journey to motherhood.
Lisa also revealed she tried surrogacy before going on to adopt her daughter, Billie, 12, ten years ago, and talks excitedly about her forthcoming wedding to fiance, chef John Torode.
She said: “Everyone around me seemed to be pregnant, and that made me feel such a failure. I lost sight of everything, my marriage, my friends, my family. All I could think was: I want to grow a baby.”
A new book will support people through their journey
She said talking about her feelings will hopefully help others to deal with a similar journey, and it has all been documented in a new book on her experiences.
She said: “There were no books, and there were no people. So I thought I’d like to write a book that holds somebody’s hand even if they do not end up adopting, but going through those trials of everyone suddenly having babies and it not being so easy for them.”
She added that trying for a baby can be a ‘lonely place’ and whatever the path to motherhood is, it is ‘meant to be’.
The full interview is in the Monday 22 edition of Hello! magazine, which is out now.
