A 51-year-old UK woman who did not want her age to inhibit her having more children has revealed she is 20-weeks pregnant
Helen Gration, who lives in York with her husband, Harry and twin sons, Harrison and Harvey, 16, was told by fertility experts that the only way she would have more children was to use egg donation.
The couple began looking at egg donors in January 2018 and travelled to Cyprus for treatment soon after.
The UK’s fertility watchdog, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority does not permit treatment for women over the age of 51 due to the higher risks involved.
Helen, who is a former television news director, left a job at the BBC to embrace motherhood again and said she was very excited once she reached the 12-week scan and was told the baby was healthy.
She told the Daily Mail: “That was the moment I really began to feel that motherhood was going to happen again.”
She also revealed she would remain ‘active and healthy’ and was ‘not scared about the future’.
She first had IVF in her 30s to have her sons and said it was a turning point in her life.
