A Dutch fertility doctor who used his own sperm has been confirmed as the father of 49 children after DNA tests
Jan Karbeet, who died two years ago, used his sperm to impregnate the women at a clinic in Bijdort, near Rotterdam.
The lawyer for the 49 children, Tim Beuters, told Dutch broadcaster, NOS, he was pleased with the outcome of the case after many years of uncertainty.
He said: “It means there is finally clarity for the children who are matched.”
According to the BBC, judges ruled in 2017 that DNA tests could be carried out but said the results must be sealed pending the outcomes of other cases.
But since then the judge in the most recent case, in February, gave the order for the results to be released.
According to the Dutch media, Karbeet reportedly admitted fathering 60 children in his time at the now-closed clinic.
He died aged 89 in April 2017 and items were seized soon afterwards.
