US media is reporting that the queen of reality television, Kim Kardashian and her rapper husband, Kanye West, are expecting their fourth child with the help of a surrogate
The first reports of the pregnancy began just after the New Year when Entertainment Today said sources had told the magazine that Kim and Kanye, nicknamed Kimye are expecting their fourth child, a baby boy, in early summer.
The couple, who have been friends for many years, married in May 2014 after dating for two years.
They had already welcomed their first child, a daughter, North, naturally and who is now five, but Kim’s pregnancy was complicated and she suffered with a rare condition called placenta accreta, which meant her placenta did not come away from her uterus following birth and meant she could haemorrhage.
The couple welcomed a second child, Saint, again it was a natural birth, but Kim suffered the same symptoms and was warned she may not be able to carry another child.
After much deliberation the couple decided to use the help of a surrogacy agency to have their third child, Chicago, who is now 11-months-old.
Kim has spoken at length about having the help of a surrogate to have Chicago and her experience of surrogacy
She said at the time: “After exploring many options, Kanye and I decided to use a gestational carrier,” she continued. “Although I have used the term surrogate in the past, a gestational carrier is actually the technical term for a woman who carries a baby that she has no biological relationship to. A traditional surrogate donates her egg, is artificially inseminated with the father’s sperm and then carries the baby to term. Since we implanted my fertilized egg in our gestational carrier, our baby is biologically mine and Kanye’s.”
The 37-year-old welcomed Chicago West on January 15 2018 and said she couldn’t have wished for a better experience of surrogacy.
She said: “The moment I laid eyes on my baby I was so in love. I am just so excited to have this addition to my family.”
When her grandmother, MJ asked her how she felt to be a mother but not carry the baby for the full time, she said it was a great thing.
The beauty mogul said: “Honestly, when it’s done, I think it was the best decision I ever made. I think it was such an amazing experience I would recommend it for anyone.
“I am the biggest fan of surrogacy. All my fears of everything that I thought was going to happen; am I going to connect? Am I going to feel connected? All of that goes out the door and you just instantly feel connected.”
The pair have been contacted for comment on the news but have yet to respond to the reports.
