Leading fertility clinic launch specialist fertility dietetic service

Having a balanced diet, taking regular exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle can have a positive impact on fertility and increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

However, it can be very confusing to understand exactly what foods, nutrients and supplements should be consumed to optimise pregnancy success. With this in mind, and to help all those looking for clear dietetic and nutritional advice in regards to their fertility, and pregnancy, world-class facility, The Lister Fertility Clinic part of HCA UK, are pleased to announce that they will be launching the UK’s first Specialist Fertility Dietetic Clinic.

The importance of ensuring your nutrition and diet are the best it can be when TTC

Whether you are hoping to conceive via assisted reproduction treatment or natural conception, or are looking to investigate how to have the healthiest pregnancy possible, it is always worth seeking expert advice regarding your nutrition and diet.

Launching at the end of April 2018, the new Specialist Fertility Dietetic service at The Lister Fertility Clinic will offer a series of group and individual sessions with a specialist dietitian, using detailed scientific analysis to create tailored plans that help to optimise conception, and improve the chances of success for both natural and assisted reproductive treatments – setting goals for a healthy pregnancy and beyond.

For the majority of patients, the Group Approach will be recommended, which will not only cater to individual fertility goals, but will also offer valuable peer support and a positive social circle to help you succeed, without the need or pressure to discuss personal or sensitive data.

As the dietician will have looked into each person individually, they can slightly modify the needs of each group on a case by case basis, which is why group sizes are limited. This option comprises a set package to include:

  • Step 1: An initial 1:1 consultation involving a full health screening, goal setting and a full nutritional assessment, completed via phone, email and using its nutrition mobile application which helps in providing an individual approach to the group session.
  • Step 2: Once all assessments have taken place, and individual referral has been granted, individuals will receive their personal goals, sample menus, and literature within 5 days to help get them started.
  • Step 3: Weekly group discussions then take place over a 3-week period, which help with putting theory into practice in a supportive group setting.
  • Step 4: A final 1:1 review will take place to ensure each individual has clarity on how to put their actions into place.

Individual Consultation options are also available for those who would prefer a more personal service, or for those who have more complex dietary requirements, to include conditions such as diabetes, coeliac disease or gastrointestinal disorders.

These consultations are 45 minutes long with the number of reviews offered on a need basis.

So what are the benefits of investing in dietetic input?

  • Optimises your chances of getting pregnant
    • Helps to regulate ovulatory cycles
    • Improves the health and quality of your eggs
    • Improves the success rates of assisted reproductive treatments if pursued
    • Reduces pregnancy related risk factors for both mum and baby, by ensuring a healthy BMI
    • Improves the health of a new born child
    • Reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes as a by-product of lifestyle modifications
    • Provides clarity on pregnancy care from a nutritional perspective.

Komal Kumar, Senior Dietician at The Lister Fertility Clinic, part of HCA UK, explains the importance of the new service

“Many people are surprised to learn that from the moment of conception into the first two years of a child’s development, otherwise known as the ‘1,000 days window’ – diet and nutrition play a vital role in the child’s genetics and can influence their health for the rest of their life. Therefore, it’s vital that prospective parents-to-be are educated on their dietary needs and requirements.

Our aim is to provide unparalleled healthcare to all our patients, and through this new unrivalled service, we will be able to offer our fertility patients – a first of its kind structured education for conception and pregnancy.

There is a lot of conflicting dietary advice being given to women today, which can do more harm than good. Our aim is to provide clear, cost-effective and easy to follow advice which will benefit individuals in their journey to conceiving and becoming parents.”

The Specialist Fertility Dietetic Clinic launches at the end of April 2018.

There will also be information open days with Komal, taking place at The Lister on April 21st, May 12th and 26th, between 12.30 – 1.30.

To book a place at the open day, email komal.kumar@hcahealthcare.co.uk or call 0207 730 7733 x 52043.
