Alan Trounson is an Australian biologist who makes history in 1983 with the first pregnancy from an embryo that has been frozen and then thawed.

His team achieves the first pregnancy in a woman with no ovaries using donor eggs a year later. This technique opens up the possibility of surrogate motherhood (or ‘rent-a-womb’ as some journalists nicknamed it).
