IVF has helped millions of people to achieve a child they may not otherwise have been able to have, but it is not failsafe. It is an all encompassing process for both women and men. It is exciting yet daunting and takes over our lives for a while
For women, there’s the prodding and poking, tests and scans for starters and then there’s the IVF treatment meds and injectable hormones! If going through the surrogacy or donor route, the psychological issues around this and reaching that momentous decision.
Should you freeze your eggs to preserve for later in life as you haven’t met the right partner, are pursuing a career or its just not the right time. Do you work in a high risk job, do you have a serious illness and need to consider egg preservation. Or are you considering embryo adoption. So many questions and routes to take, it can be so confusing.
Going through the process, your mind can be full of so many questions which sometimes get blindsided by what we are having to go through, we become so ensconced by it all we forget to ask or realise that others are going through this too.
The process can be long, arduous, scary, exciting, uncomfortable, upsetting, full of joy, but most of all surreal! Please do remember that you are not alone in going through this. To share your feelings and experiences with others going through, or about to embark on, this incredible journey can ease the pressure.
Don’t struggle alone. Be vulnerable with your partner and other women who can walk with you through this process by sharing experiences, written or filmed.
Sara and Tracey, the co founders of IVF babble have also been there and know a little of what you are going through, read their stories here.
